PLIGHT OF DISTRESSED
RELIEF SOCIETY NEEDS SUPPORT. THE "HERALD” FUND. It is hoped that a sympathetic public Will make a strong endeavour to assist “The Herald” to reach its objective in raising 10,000 shillings to supplement the funds of the Central Relief Society. Good progress has been made, and yesterday's reading of the barometer Indicated that 5166 shillings have been collected to date. The widespread nature of the Society’s relief work entails a heavy drain on its finances. Opportunity will be afforded the public to assist the “Herald” Fund to-night, when Mr Herbert Hall is to deliver a lecture in St. Patrick’s Hall, and a musical programme will be presented.
