The Navy paid a unique tribute to I the memory of the well-known painter. | Mr William Lionel Wyllie, R.A., who so faithfully portrayed most glorious epi- ; sodes. The scene of his passing was like one of his own canvasses. The \ coffin was taken from the studio overlooking Portsmouth Harbour to the f Cathedral, and the congregation, head- ! ed by Sir Roger Keyes, thence went ! through densely lined streets to the | harbour, where the coffin w T as laid in I the stern of a cutter belonging to H.M.S. Nelson. It was rowed to Port- , Chester, followed by the Admiral’s I barge and a variety of craft. . AH the warships in the harbour in- | eluding the Nelson, Victory and Warspite. were manned and dipped their colours. The burial took place in the churchyard within the walls of Portchester Castle.
