The British Ambassador to Italy represented His Majesty. No fewer than 800 French Royalists arrived in a specially chartered liner. By special permission of the Pope, the Cardinal Archbishcp of Palermo officiated. Richly dressed guests thronged the Cathedral interior, which v r as bedecked with antique. tapestries, bejewelled vessels and rich vestments. Outside there was a cordon of troops and uniformed Fascist militia. At the luncheon seven hundred guests were served in the grounds of the palace at Daumale, the centuries old Palermo home of the Orleans family.
