VIKING DISASTER.
SEARCH VESSEL SINKS. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright BT. JOHN’S (Newfoundland), March 20. The auxiliary sealing schooner Sir William sank 15 miles north-east of Horse Island to-day. The crew of 28 reached the steamer Eagle safely. The vessel was apparently lost white searching for the Viking’s survivors. Five miles away was the rescue 6hip Sagona, with the Viking’s survivors taken from Horse Island, aboard, preparing to leave for St. John’s. Heavy gales prevail. Ships have searched every foot of ice for 22 miles beyond where the Viking disaster occurred, without a trace of further victims. Captains advised against an aerial search. AERIAL RELIEF. A DOUBTFUL TASK. United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph—Copyright BOSTON, March 20. An aerial relief expedition, headed by Bemt Balchen, took off this monv ing for St. John’s, New Brunswick, en route to Newfoundland, to search foe the Viking survivors. They are flying a twin motored Sis* korsky amphibian, with Randy Enslow as relief pilot. Merino Cooper, the New York expedlM tion organiser, is also aboard. Balchen somewhat pessimistically termed the flight as a doubtful task. The Viking’s missing are now placed at 28. The survivors total 127. CAPTAIN BALCHEN ARRIVES.
