The weather was fine and there was a satisfactory attendance at Flemington. , , . Home-Made was last early, hut outstayed the opposition in the Hurdles, and won nicely. Blast, Romeo, and Gertitude fell. Semitist was third early and won the Carmichael Stakes easily. He also won at Flemington on New Year’s Day. Myarin was last at the half-mile, but won the first division of the Bourke Handicap brilliantly. He is trained by P. Poster, who also has King Aura. Cevantes led always in the River Handicap, and put up an excellent Cup trial. Waterline made a brilliant effort in the second division of the Bourke Handicap. He cost his owner 2000gns in New Zealand last season, and has won four races here. His trainer, A. Sldrving, won the Bourke Handicap with Imputation in 1923. Nauru tried to lead throughout in the steeplechase, but tired, and Good Whisky finished well. His trainer, P. Quinlan, has Mystic Peak. Phar Lap had no trouble in recording his fourteenth successive victory in the King’s Plate. He won this event last year. His stakes now total £51,462. Glare pleased his Australian Cup admirers, and showed improvement on Saturday’s form. Stake values to winners were:— King’s Plate, £700; Bourke Handicap, divisions £360 each; other races, £350.
