OVERSEAS SHIPPING.
AN INCREASE ANNOUNCED. Bv Telegraph—Press Association I WELLINGTON, October 25. The Overseas Shipping Committee announces that the shipping freights paid in New Zealand on general cargo will, as from November 1 next, be subject to an auuicional charge of 5 per cen~, in order to cover the present rate of exchange. The Overseas Shipping Owners’ Committee announces that so iar as the lines it represents are concerned, all freight rates and rebates on outward j shipping from overseas will continue ; on the same basis, and that any state- j ment to the contrary is incorrect. j The announcement is made with a j desire to remove apprehension on tne j part of some importing firms, that 1 shipping from certain channels en- j sures savings in freights. It reiterates that all shipping is on j the same footing; no discrimination is I made.
