INJURIES PROVE FATAL. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 26. The woman who was struck by a tramcar in Queen Street on Thursday evening, Mrs Elizabeth Jane Martin. aged 63, died in hospital last night. Mrs Martin who was knocked down heavily, received severe head injuries and was rendered unconscious. YOUNG BOY DROWNED. By Telegr *ph—Press 4ij*«ution AUCKLAND. Oct. 26. As a result of falling from a wharf at Devonport, a boy aged ten, Henry Chandler, whose parents reside at Devonport, was drowned. With his brother aged nine, deceased was gathering mussels when he slipped and fell into the water, being dead when rescued. The boy was picked up by a dinghy, which went to his assistance, but was beyond aid. FOUND DEAD. By Telegraph—l*: ess Association, DUNEDIN, Oct. 26. An elderly man, Thomas Whalley, aged 74, was found dead in bed this morning at his home in Dunedin. No inquest will be necessary. DEATH OF CHINAMAN. By Telegraph—Press A«so-*latsoc. DUNEDIN, Oct. 26. Young Yem, a Chinaman, aged 26, was found dead in bed at the market gardens at Mosgiel on Saturday morning Deceased had been suffering from heart trouble, and no inquest will be necessary. BODY FOUND ON ROCKS. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, Oct. 26. James Riley, a bricklayer, aged 59, whose home was in Dunedin, married, with no family, was found dead among the rocks on the second beach at St. Clair this morning. Deceased had been in the water, but it is not yet known how he met his death. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. By Teleg. aph—Pres* Association. HAMILTON, Oct. 26. George Gilbert Truman, 15 years of age, accidentally shot himself through the left lung, when out shooting at Matamata this afternoon. He is not expected to live. FATALLY INJURED. By Telegraph.—Pros* WELLINGTON. October 25. A middle-aged man named O’Brien, believed to have lived at 28, Cuba Street, reecived fatal injuries last night, through being knocked down by a motor lorry. Deceased was crossing the road from the direction of the waiting sheds near Lambton station, when he was struck by the lorry, which was proceeding towards the Hutt road. The driver of the was Frederick Joseph Hickman. WOMAN SHOT IN FACE. By Telegraph—Pr*%* ox* WELLINGTON, October 26. A demonstration of how to use a pea rifle, and the subsequent accidental discharge of the gun, was nearly attended with serious consequences this morning, when Mrs Vera Cunningham, of 35, Bridge Street, Lower Hutt, received a bullet wound in hex face. Mrs Cunningham’s husband, it is stated, was showing his wife now the rifle, which was sawn off, might be used as a revolver. He was quite unaware that a cartridge was in the barrel, and found, to his dismay, when the gun went off, that Mrs Cunningham had been struck. The bullet entered Mrs Cunningham’s face, on the left side of her nose ,and buried itself in her right cheek. She was admitted to hospital, and is progressing satisfactorily. LUCKY ESCAPE. By Telegraph —Pres* Association. WANGANUI, October 26. In swerving to avoid two young men on a motor-cycle at GonviJle this evening, a car, driven by the Mayor (Mr W. F. Rogers), just missed a telegraph pole, and crashed into a shop. Mrs Rogers sustained a cut on the temple, which had to be stitched. The Mayor and his three children escaped injury. CAR LEAVES ROAD. By ’ltlfigrapn—rretjs Association WANGANUI, October 26. Leaving the road on a corner at the Marangai Hill, nine miles from Wanganui, this morning, a car turned over twice, and the wife of the driver, A. Pellaw, of Palmerston North, received scalp wounds, which necessitated twenty-seven stitches. The husband suffered shock. Two others in the car were uninjured.
