OTIPUA.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. Despite the inclemency of the weather, the members of the Otipua Institute turned out in good numbers to the monthly meeting. Miss Withel presided, and apologised for the absence of Mrs R. Stewart, Timaru, who was to have given an address on books and play-reading. The “thrift” exhibition to be held in Geraldine, was discussed and members were asked to attend and also to take part if possible by putting in exhibits. The Institute Conference is to be held in October, and Miss Withel expressed her willingness to attend as a delegate. At a "round the table” conference held afterwards, many new ideas were expressed, and suggestions for the monthly programmes, were made. In order to stimulate interest it was decided to held a social in September, when singing, folk dancing, ball-room dancing and competitions would take place. Mrs R. Hewitt, Mrs J. Allen, and Mrs Percy Campbell, were enroled as new members. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Purves, Smith, Rapsy and Miss Withel.
