DO YOU DRINK ENOUGH?
It is said that the majority of women do not drink enough water. Large quantities of tea are taken, but as this is often strong and stewed, it is detrimental to health. A large amount of fluid is required by the body, and this is best taken between meals and in the form of plain water. If everyone ! would make it a practice to drink a glass of water before breakfast, another in the afternoon or evening, and another at bedtime, there would be an enormous improvement in health. Many of the tiresome little ills from which we suffer would disappear, and there would be far more rose and lily complexions. Cold water is a wonderful cleanser of the blood, and if taken regularly will cure blotchy skins and pimples. In cold weather it may be found that cold water is too chilly. Don’t give up the water cure, however, but drink hot water instead. In fact, after a hot bath or meal it is better to drink hot water, not cold. To give variety to your glass of water add the juice of an orange or the unsweetened juice of a lemon sometimes. Barley water, slightly sweetened and flavoured with lemon, is a very healthy and pleasant drink. If, in addition to the water habit, you also eat plenty of fresh fruit every day, especially apples, oranges, and grapefruit, your looks will be wonderfully improved.
THIS AND THAT.
Baths can be cleaned by rubbing them with a wet flannel dipped in salt. Chamoise gloves will be quite soft after washing if, when dry, they are pressed with a warm iron. Fur collars or ties which have been exposed to rain or fog should be wiped with a clean towel and dried in a warm room; but do not place them too near the fire, as this makes them stiff. To clean a clothes wringer quickly and effectively, saturate a cloth in paraffin, and rub the rollers. Let them dry thoroughly before wringing any clothes. Pudding oloths will wash more easily if borax is added to the hot water. Knit a strand of silk into a heel and toe of a stocking. It makes the stocking wear better.
