THIEF’S MEAN TRICK. By Telegraph—Press AssociationWHANGAREI, April 28. On the first day of the Whangarei. races, William Bain had two £5 tickets on Maori Boy, the winner of the McInnes Handicap. He did not cash the tickets. The following day he was in company with William Archibald McMillan, of Hikurangi, an old acquaintance. During the afternoon, he missed the tickets and informed the police. On the second day of the races one of the tickets was presented at the late dividend v/indow by a man who said McMillan had offered him £2 to cash it. McMillan to-day was charged in Court with attempting to steal £l2/15/the property of William Bain, and was fined £2. The Magistrate commented strongly upon the action of McMillan in sending another man to cash the tickets inutoad of doing so himself, thus allowing a quite innocent person to be placed in the position of a wrong doer*
