Sir Joseph Ward will celebrate his 74th. birthday to-day. His Honour Mr Justice Adams and his associate, Mr W. R. Teape, will arrive to-day to attend the Supreme Court session.
Mr C. F. Collins, of Whangarei, who was in Timaru to attend the High School jubilee functions, left for the north on Thursday.
The Rev. Father O’Connor, of the Sacred Heart Parish, Timaru, has received word of his transfer to St. Mary’s Parish, Christchurch. The Rev. Father Paul Kane, S.M., of the Marist Missions, arrived in Timaru by yesterday morning’s express. He left by a later train for Dunedin.
A Press message from Hokitika says that Mr and Mrs T. E. Y. Seddon were publicly entertained oia the occasion of leaving for Wellington to reside, after having served as member for Westland for nearly 20 years. Mr Seddon was presented with a handsome piece of plate in appreciation of past services. The gathering was a very representative one, and many expressions of goodwill were voiced. On account of indifferent health, and after thirty years of public service, Mr T. P. Gilfedder has retired from the position of Registrar of Pensions, Wellington, an office which he has held since 1923. Mr Gilfedder was born at Invercargill. He is a son of one of Southland’s early settlers, the late Mr Peter Gilfedder, J.P.. of One Tree Point, and a brother of Mr Justice Gilfedder, of the Native Land Court, and formerly in Parliament for Wallace. Mr Gilfedder is well-known in athletic circles in the Dominion.
