CROQUET. A friendly croquet match played on the Geraldine lawns on Tuesday, between a team representing the Geraldine Croquet Club and the Aorangi seniors, resulted in a win for Geraldine by seven games to two. Mrs Rule 9 v. Miss Morgan 26. EX-PUPIL HONOURED. An ex-pupil of the Geraldine District High School, Mr E. J. Riches, M.A., who Is on the staff of the International Labour Office of the League of Nations, and who is at present visiting his home town, was entertained at a social by the District High School Association on Tuesday night. In welcoming Mr Riches, Mr H. W. Williaipson, president of the Association, said that they were very pleased to welcome an ex-pupil who had done so much for himself in the way of advancement. The social that evening would give Air Riches an opportunity of renewing acquaintanceship with a number of old friends. Prior to a short talk on his travels and the work of the League, Mr Roches said that he owed a great dea* to his early associations in Geraldine, and for the many friendships that he had formed in the town. He was particularly happy at meeting so many old friends. After a short but interesting address, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker, who was given the best wishes for future success. BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPS. For the championship doubles of the Geraldine Bowling Club, J. R. Lack and J. Earl defeated C. Stock and G. Loach yesterday afternoon by 26-10. PERSONAL. The condition of Archdeacon Purchas was reported yesterday to be as satisfactory as could be expected. Though he had passed a fair night, he was still on the seriously ill list.
