INTOXICATED MOTORIST. By Telegraph—Press Association. TE AROHA, April 10. Albert Hirst, a farmer of Elstow, w-as charged before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M., to-day, with having while in a state of intoxication, driven a motor-car in such a manner as to collide with Mary Fitzgerald, aged 70, severely injuring her. Defendant pleaded guilty, under exonerating circumstances. The police called five witnesses, who gave evidence that accused was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. The Magistrate said it -was clear that accused, who was returning from Paeroa races, had been drinking regularly during the day. A fine of £3O was imposed, and accused's license was cancelled for two years. Fines aggregating £SO were imposed on 20 motorists charged with speeding.
