LINSEED STRAW.
SUGGESTED VALUE TO FARMERS Yesterday, a Timaru merchant stated to a “Herald” reporter that he was in receipt of a circular letter from a company in Auckland, dealing with a suggested industry by which linseed straw might prove to be of considerable value to farmers. The letter stated that the company would not confine their operations to contract growers, and that while the conditions called for straw of good average length, growers would not be advised to burn straw if it fell short of requirements. If the straw was unsuitable for fibre purposes, it would be suitable for converting into straw board, and would probably be worth the same money. The conditions stated that good average length straw, not less than 20 inches, would be useful. The straw must not be broken or cut through «toy the threshing mill, but it would not matter if the straw was bent or hammered. Weed separation would take place at the proposed mill, and at the purchaser’s risk, and delivery of the present year’s crop could not be taken until the proposed mill was planned and constructed. The letter gave the opinion that it would be an easy matter for the grower to select a position for the stack, so as not to interfere with the cultivation of any rotation crop following the linseed crop, and stated that the purchaser would be required to remove the straw and defray transport charges.
