LABOUR VICTORY IN AUSTRALIA.
Another State Captured. LIBERAL CABINET REJECTED. (United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) ADELAIDE, April 7. The elections resulted in the Butler Government being defeated after three years’ office. The probable state of the parties will be:— New Old Parliament. Parliament. Labour .... 26 16 Liberal .... 17 27 Country Party 2 1 Independent . 0 2 In Wooroora the position of the Premier, Mr Butler, is still in doubt and he will have difficulty in retaining hig seat. There is a possibility of Mr Jenkins, Commissioner of Crown Lands, being defeated. The Attorney-General, Mr Homburg, is being closely pressed and the Minister of Education is by no means certain of being returned. Contests occurred in forty-two constituencies, for which there were ninety-five candidates. All the members of the Assembly and half the members of the Legislative Council went to the country. The New Premier. It is likely that the new Premier will be Mr L. L. Hill, who is present Leader of the Labour Party. He was Minister in the former 1924 Labour Administration. He states he will pursue a policy of moderation, with a view to the revival of trade. Labour Pleased. Commenting on the fact that Labour had ousted the Liberal Government in South Australia, the Prime Minister of Australia said this was the first State to vindicate the Federal Government’s policy in relation to finance.
