JUSTICES’ ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OP COUNCIL. A meeting of the Council of the South Canterbury Justices' Association was held on Friday last. A. Lawrence Gee (president), was in the chair. The chairman, in reporting on the work done since the last meeting, referred in feeling terms to the death of one of the foundation members of the Association, Mr Wm. Evans. The speaker eulogised the late Mr Evans’s work to the district, and stated that a letter of condolence and a wreath had been sent to Mrs Evans and family. He asked that a motion of sympathy be passed by those present, to the relatives of the deceased. This was carried in the usual manner. Messrs T. P. Crowe, W. H. Orbell, J. R. Sneddon and P. C. Vinnell, who had been recently appointed Justices of the Peace, were elected members of the Association.
These brought the total number of members up to 102, and the Association becomes entitled to two delegates at any conference of the New Zealand Justices’ Federation. Mr R. Orwin was appointed as the second delegate in the place of Mr J. p. Newman who was unable to act, and Mr Orwin is to act in conjunction with Mr J. Hole at the forthcoming conference.
The chairman reported on the arrangements made for the conference of the New Zealand Justices’ Federation, which is to be held at Timaru, commencing on Wednesday next.
