BYRD’S SPEECH. In connection with Rear-Admiral Bvrd’s speech, this afternoon, the Temuka School Committee have completed arrangements for reception in the Dominion Theatre. Pupils of St. Joseph’s School and the Arowhenua School have been invited to attend. CANCER RECEARCH FUND. Kingston 10 0 F.S 1 0 Total 11 1 0 TEMUKA Y.W. LEAGUE. At the Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, certificates were given to those who had completed one year in attendance at Sunday morning worship, and book prizes were given t« those who had attended 48 Sunday mornings out of 52. Those marked with an asterisk attended the whole 52 Sunday mornings:—

SOUTH AFRICAN RE-UNION. A most enjoyable re-union of South African Veterans was held in the Temuka 1.0.0. F. Hall on Saturday evening, about 60 contingenters. including a large contingent from Timaru, being present. Also included were several who participated in the Great War. A number of R.S.A. members were among the specially invited guests.

Comrade C. L. Fraser was in the chair, and was supported by the Mayor (Mr T. E. Gunnion), Mr V/. D. Campbell (patron of the Timaru Branch), Mr Albert Thoreau (past president), Mr E. Porter (chairman, Timaru Committee), Mr W. F. Evans (president), end Mr D. White (secretary, Temuka R.S.A.), and Mr T. H Langford.

The chairman, welcomed the visitors and expressed the hope that they would have an enjoyable evening. He read apologies from Messrs M. J. Kimbley, C. S. Fraser, and John Hole, who had been connected with South African veterans, since the date of the war, from Mr P. O’Connor (Timaru president), from Waimate comrades, and several other Comrades residing in the district.

A feature of the speeches was the declaration that war must end, and this view served to have the approbation of all present. Community singing from song sheets, and old favourites such as “Dolly Gray,” “Soldiers of the King,” provided much pleasure. Songs were rendered by Messrs F. Dwan, A. Kennedy, and the choirmaster, Mr E. Porter. ADD TEMUKA

Mehrtens, Cooper, Kennedy, and Brown; "Temuka Branch,” Mr W. D. Campbell, responded to by Mr C. L. Fraser; “Agricultural Interests,” Mr Langford, responded to by Mr J. Maze; "Chairman,” Mr Gunnion, responded to by Mr Fraser.

The accompaniments for the vocal items were played by Mr Patchett and two friends from Timaru.

“HOLD YOUR MAN” TO-NIGHT Laura La Plante again asserts her right to the title of queen of film comediennes by her performance in “Hold Your f~an,” a hilarious farce comedy, which will be screened at Temuka to-night. “Hold Your Man.” is a story of the domestic rift in the lives of a young couple caused by the wife’s determination to go to Paris to study art. There she meets a romantic foreigner. Later her husband and the girl he intends to marry, as soon as a Paris divorce clears the way, arrives. A heavy rainstorm imprisons in one apartment the participants in the romantic mix-up and complications of a highly entertaining nature foilow. A number of entertaining supporting pictures will be screened.
