TEKAPO SALE.
LARGE YARDING OF SHEEP. LOW PRICES PREVAIL. j The annual sale of Mackenzie County sheep was held at Tekapo on Saturday. The yarding this year showed a considerable advance in numbers on that of last year, the total being in the
vicinity of 28.000. The sheep came forward in fairly good condition, but the sale generally was a most disappointing one. There was a fair attendance of the public, but buyers were not so numerous as in previous years. Usually a fair number of sheep from this sale find their way south, but on Saturday southern buyers were conspicuous by their absence. There were a fair number present from North Canterbury, but they were operating on very small limits.
The sale, which was opened by Mr T. D. Burnett. M.P.. commenced at 10.30, and concluded between 3 and 4 o’clock.
The low prices ruling at wool sales throughout the Dominion this season were reflected at Tekapo, where merinos were neglected, and hard to sell. The bulk of the sheep offered brought prices about half of those realised at the Tekapo sale yast year.
