WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL
ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS. In the presence of a large number of parents, and 550 children, the annual swimming sports of the Waimataitai School \yere held at Oldway Baths yesterday, under glorious weather conditions. Much enthusiasm was shown during the afternoon by the large gathering, a varied programme of events beingfull of interest. The entries totalled one hundred and seventy-five, and the general high standard of swimming j gave evidence of the prominent part j Waimataitai plays in the fostering of j this very desirable sport. After many exciting finishes, the boys’ champion was found in Douglas Howey, while similar honour in the girls’ classes was attained by Shirley Lamb. The management of the sports was in the capable hands of Mr R. A. Malcolm (headmaster), and staff, while members of the Committee, Messrs G. Benstead (chairman), F. Oxford, and W. Sotham, gave valuable assistance as judges. Following were the results:— Boys. One Length (under 12 years)—First heat—Pawson 1, Morrison 2, McMaster 3. Second heat—Price 1, Sotham 2, Stoclevell 3.
