BOGUS PLUMBER? By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 5. Frederick Murphy (39), salesman, to-day pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering the house of Mr C. M. Ellison, Karori, with intent to commit a theft. The allegation was that on returning home Mr Ellison found a man there, who said he was looking for the house of some people named Stone, and had been sent to mend a leaking waterpipe. After he got inside, however, Ellison found that the house had been ransacked, though nothing was missing.

SHEEP STEALING CHARGE FAILS. By Telegraph—Press Association MASTERTON, March 5. A verdict of not guilty was returned in the case of William Baron, a farmer of Pigeon Bush, who was charged with stealing five sheep, the property of Morgan Davies, a neighbour.

STOWAWAYS FINED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 5. Two stowaways who were arrested on the arrival of the Ulimaroa from Sydney yesterday apneared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Their names were Henry Frederick King, a carpenter, aged 28; and Arnold Francis Coker, a motor mechanic, aged 26. Sub-Inspector Lander said that when arrested both accused said it was difficult to find regular employment in Australia, where they had been for some time. One of the men had 4d in his possession, and the other 3d. The Magistrate fined each of the accused £5, in default one month’s imprisonment.

ALLEGED THEFT OF SOVEREIGNS. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 5. John Charles Turvey, alias Davis, a cook, aged 26. pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to charges of stealing eighty sovereigns, the property of Eraclis Pippos. Turvey was further charged with receiving sixty-four sovereigns, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Accused arrived from Sydney as a stowaway on 4th. February- He was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
