TEMUKA.

MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE. After the ordinary meeting of the Temuka Borough Council last Wednesday, the acting Town Clerk received 2 letter from the Municipal Association, intimating that the annual conference would be held at Invercargill on March 6, and asking that a representative be appointed. The Town Clerk consulted with Councillors, and the Mayor was approached and consented to represent the town at the conference. 1.0.0. F. The fortnightly meeting of the Waitea Rebekah Lodge was held on Tuesday evening, the N.G., Sister Davis, presiding over a good attendance. The visiting committee reported one sister on the sick list. A motion of sympathy was carried with a sister who had recently suffered a bereavement. A welcome was accorded the Waihi Lodge members from Geraldine, they having journeyed to Temuka to conduct the initiation ceremony. Sister Waler, Vice-Grand, in the absence of the Noble Grand, replied thanking the Waihi members for the welcome, and invited the Waitea officers to Geraldine on March 3, to take the initiation there. This invitation was accepted. The chairman of the social committee, reported on arrangements made for the holding a social and dance. The balance sheet of the last social was read, which showed a substantial credit balance. The Waihi Lodge then took charge, and initiated four candidates into the Rebekah Degree, the officers performing their duties very creditably. The Lodge closed in due form, after which supper was served, and a friendly game of cards indulged in, Waihi v. Waitea, the latter proving the winners. Next Lodge night will take the form of a children’s night. PERSONAL. The Rev. R. Richards, formerly Methodist minister at Temuka, and now of Roslyn, Dunedin, has been appointed to .Waitemata, in the South Auckland district. Mrs J. Johnston, a former resident of Milford, but now of the North Island, is at present visiting Temuka, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs Oliver, Milford. * APPRECIATION. Sue Carol and Nick Stuart are entrusted with the leading roles, and they acquit themselves creditably. “Chasing Through Europe,” is a thrilling drama, embracing a delightful love story. A young college graduate with a movie camera finds adventure and romance other than merely turning the camera crank. The scenes are photographed in European cities, and the backgrounds are of unusual interest. The Prince of Wales and Mussolini appear in the picture. Entertaining supporting pictures will also be screened. NOTES. The St. Joseph’s Tennis Club will hold a flannel dance in the Catholic Club rooms on Thursday.
