FRACAS AT TE ARO.
POLICE DRAW BATONS. By Telegraoh—Prasa Association. WELLINGTON, February 25. Having occasion to eject a man from a dance for fighting on Saturday night, the police came into collision with a crowd at Te Aro. Batons were drawn and reinforcements were needed before they got possession of the two men they were arresting. In the Police Court to-day, Hugh Tanner, alias Hugh James Tanner (25), fireman, was charged with resisting Sergeant Edwards while in the lawful execution of his duty. James O’Neill (32), watersider, was charged with assaulting Constable Ritchie while in the lawful execution of his duty, and also with resisting Constable Ritchie. Counsel said the men were pleading not guilty, and a remand was allowed till to-morrow. No statement was made by the Police.
