Mr W. D. Revell left yesterday for Wellington.

Mr F. Goldberg, who has been on a visit to Timaru, left yesterday for Christchurch and Sydney. Mr E. J. Hall, son of Mr C. Hall. Harper Street. Timaru, has received word that he has gained his M.A. degree with second-class honours. Major F. W. Sandford. Commissioner of Scout Training, who has been staying in Timaru, left yesterday for the north.

Mr H. Colonna, of Christchurch, has been appointed Fiduciary in New Zealand for the Anti-Fascist League of Europe.

Messrs W. Petrie and W. H. Thompson. Timaru representatives of the Master Builders’ Association, left yesterday to attend the annual New Zealand Conference at Auckland. At the Methodist Conference, congratulations were tendered to the Revs. J. J. Lewis, W. J. Williams, and C. R. Ward on having attained the diamond jubilee of their ministry.—(Press Association).

The Mayor (Mr W. Angland), Councillor A. Kennedy and the Town Clerk (Mr E. A. Killick), were last night appointed to represent the Timaru Borough Council at the Municipal Association Conference at Invercargill on March 5.

The Public Service Commissioner has announced the appointment of Mr G. C. Rodda, at present assistant Accountant to the Treasury, to the position of assistant Secretary to the Treasury, previously held by Mr H. D. Park, who recently became Secretary to the Treasury on the retirement of Mr R. E. Hayes.—Press Assn.

Mr Edward Falgrave Davy, son of the Rev E. Falgrave Davy, who has for years been associated with the Youth Movement in New Zealand, has received an appointment as pilot officer in the Royal Air Force, and is proceeding to Egypt this week for framing in the flying school at Abu Sueir. Mr Davy, who was bom in Simla, North India, came to New Zealand with his parents in 1913, and was educated in the Dominion.

Mr J. R. Kirk, M.8.E,. ex-Mayor of Gisborne, will be a passenger to England by f.he Rangitane at the end of this month, and in view of this has resigned from the Council of Education, of which he has been a member since its inception about fifteen years ago; from the Hawke's Bay Education Board, of which he was a member (and deputy chairman) for eighteen years; from the Gisborne High School Board, of which he was a governor for nineteen years, and from the New Zealand Technical Education Association, of which he was vice-president. Mr P. S. Cabot. ■an old boy of the Timaru Boys’ High School, who has been a member of the staff of the Otago Boys’ High School for the last five years, has been granted leave of absence to undertake research and special training at the Teachers’ College, Columbia University, New York. Mr Cabot has had an excellent allround University career. At Rugby he captained the Otago University A team and represented South Canterbury, Otago, South Island and New Zealand. For a long time he has held important responsible positions among students, and at present is Dominion president of the New Zealand National Union of Students. He is a Captain in the Territorial Forces. Besides gaining his M.A. degree, and the Diploma in Education, he has just been awarded a Carnegie Foundation, the first time this has been won by a New Zealander.
