OVERSEA FARMERS
MEETING OF ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting was held in the Arcade last night for the purpose of arranging for the visit of the British, Canadian, and South African farming party, to Timaru on March 21. The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Farmers’ Union, Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and Automobile Association are to be associated in the welcome, the principal function being in the Bay Hall in the evening. Delegates present were—Messrs P. R. Talbot (Farmers’ Union) in the chair, J. Maze (A. and P. Association), J. Palliser (Automobile Association), J. Henderson (Farmers’ Union) and A. Thoreau (Secretary, Farmers’ Union). A letter was received from the Waimate Branch of the Farmers’ Union, stating that a meeting of representatives of the Waimate Agricultural Association, Waimate Automobile Association, and Farmers’ Union* had been held, and it had been decided to meet the visitors at 7tudholme Junction. They would be conveyed along a suitabl route to inspect potato plots, and from there to Waimate, were afternoon tea would be provided. The visitors could then be handed over to a motor party from Timaru, or could be taken to the Pareora bridge. The meeting complimented Waimate on the thoroughness of arrangements and approved of the programme. It was decided on the motion of Mr Palliser, that the visitors be picked up at St Andrews, and driven to Timaru, a short trip to be made round the Borough if time permitted. Arrangements/were made to secure sufficient cars, and details for the function at night were considered. Representatives expressed regret that the time allocated to South Canterbury for entertaining the visitors was so short, in view of there being so uuch in this district to interest a farming party.
