CROQUET

TOURNAMENT COMMENCES TO-DAY. This morning at 9 o’clock a croquet tournament will be commenced under the control of the South Central Croquet Association, and will be continued on Friday and Saturday. This is the first tournament that has been held in South Canterbury, and judging by the enthusiasm being displayed and the entries received, which number over 150. it should prove a great success. Nine clubs will be represented, and players will be present from as far north as Ashburton and as far south as Oamaru. There will be a large number of events in all three grades. Those in the A and B grades will be played on the Timaru and Aorangi lawns, and those in the C grade on Ashbury, these clubs having kindly lent their lawns for the purpose. It is proposed to play the finals on the Timaru lawn on Saturday afternoon, when the public are invited to be present.
