ARBITRATION COURT.
DAIRY FACTORY AWARD. By Telegraph—Pre« Association. AUCKLAND, February 19. The hearing of a claim for a new award, made by employers to cover creamery, cheese and butter factory workers, was not concluded in the Arbitration Court. The proposal of the employers was practically the existing award, and it was in counter-proposals of the Union that changes were asked for. The Union asked for a decrease in hours of work, and for an increase in wages. The employers asked that in butter factories, from August 15 to March 15, the hours of work be 56 hours for seven days a week, and that from March 16 to August 14 the hours be 44 for a week of seven days. In cheese factories, the hours asked for were 60 weekly from July 14 to May 14, and 48 weekly for the remainder of the year, seven days weekly to be worked in each case. The Union asked for hours not exceeding 48 weekly, to be worked on six days, and for overtime to be paid if nine hours was exceeded on any one day. An all-round increase in wages was sought as follows:—First assistant in factory where 15 hands are employed, £5/3/6 to £5/10/-; second assistant, £4/17/6 to £5/4/-; third assistant, £4/10/6 to £4/17/-; other workers, £4/1/- to £4/7/6. A wage of £6 a week was claimed for cream graders, who have not hitherto been covered by an award. Decision was reserved.
