TROUBLE AT EVERY PORT.
QUARRELSOME ENGINEER. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 18. A fine of £5 for assaulting Captain Hannevig was imposed on Herman Nielsen (33), second engineer of the Norwegian steamer June, in the Police Court to-day. On a charge of assaulting the third engineer, S. A. Yggesth, accused was convicted and discharged. Captain Hannevig said accused had caused trouble at every port since joining the vessel in England last June, and he did not want him on the ship. “You have to take him away. He is a prohibited immigrant,” said the Magistrate (M. F. H. Hunt). Later, however, accused was signed off, the captain furnishing the necessary bond and guaranteeing that the accused would leave the Dominion. This was not the end of the June’s troubles. At nine o’clock this morning six members of the crew obtained a launch and left the ship, which was anchored in the stream. As they did not return, warrants were issued, and the men were arrested this afternoon on charges of being absent without leave. They will appear in the Police Court to-morrow. In the meantime, the June, which has a cargo of pTiosphate from Nauru Island for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, is waiting in the stream.
