OPPERMAN AND O’SHEA DIVIDE HONOURS. By TeltfraDh — Press Aaaocietion. CHRISTCHURCH, December 19. H. Opperman (Australia), and P. O’Shea (New Zealand) met this evening over two distances of five miles, tandem-paced on English Park. Over the first distance O'Shea led into the straight after an even race, and held Opperman to win "by a length in a great finish. Time, lOmin 39 3-5 secs. In the second race the riders were again together all the way Opperman led into the straight, when O’Shea came almost level in a wonderful effort, but the Australian won by a wheel. Time, lOmin. 23 2-ssecs.
j Opperman also broke the record for • five miles motor-paced by 32 seconds, j his time being Bmins. 27secs.
