RICCARTON TRACK WORK. (Special to the “Herald.”) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. The weather was fine for training operations at Riccarton this morning. Several horses with engagements at Ashburton did useful work. Honour and Jaleux went once round the reverse way on the plough, but never faster than three-quarter pace. Arikiwai and Gay Crest covered five furlongs on the plough, the reverse way, in lmin 6sec. Arikiwai showed signs of soreness when he pulled up, but he was all right afterwards. Praise and Greenaway reeled off five furlongs on the plough in lmin 3 2-ssec, a smart gallop. This concluded the reverse work. Countermarch sprinted three furlongs on the plough in 39sec, Pride and her two-year-old sister going over the same ground in 38sec. Hurly Burly covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 17sec, in good style. There was nothing to choose between Dunraven and Whatnot at the end of three furlongs on the plough in 37sec. Malmsey was too good for Turnover at the end of six furlongs on the grass, in lmin 16sec. Paquito covered seven furlongs on the plough in lmin 31sec. Marsham joined in for the last five furlongs and a half and had a slight advantage at the winning post. Quarterdeck and Full Feather occupied lmin 32 2-ssec for seven furlongs on the plough. Subdivision was to have galloped

five furlongs on the grass, but he took charge of his rider and broke away at the seven-furlong post, registering lmin 30 3-ssec, a smart gallop. Waterline and Semper Paratus sprinted three furlongs on the plough in 36 4-ssec. Kentish Lady just beat Shipshape over half a mile on the grass in 48 2-ssec, a surprisingly good effort. Hcylake worked on the plough, covering seven furlongs in lmin 32sec. He caused somd trouble before he could be induced to start. Tcheka and Rapina were together at the end of five furlongs on the grass in lmin 4 3-ssec. Sleipner and Huntley went out to gallop five furlongs on the grass. Sleipner broke away very fast and finished in front in lmin 2sec, a smart performance. Audience sprinted half a mile on the grass in 49sec, Sapient following over the same ground in 50 2-ssec. Count Cavour and The Viscount covered a mile on the grass in lmin 43 l-ssec, the former having a slight advantage. Great Star -was given easy work during the breakfast interval, over six furlongs on the plough, the reverse way. He was sore afterwards. Phastar and Nightdew covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 18 l-ssec, Tane running over the same ground in lmin 18sec. Amor occupied lmin 35sec for seven furlongs on the grass. Decoy Bird sprinted half a mile on the grass in 49sec, showing great dash. Arrowmir ran half a mile up theback, on the grass, in 50 3-ssec. Solgele went well over five furlongs on the grass, taking 49 3-ssec for the last half-mile. Te Awhina and Pahautanui broke away from the seven-furlong post on the grass, several lengths in front of Be?, Raid, who was almost 'on terms at the end of three furlongs. Pahautanui stopped in the run home, and Te Awhina finished well clear of Sea Raid in lmin 29 3-ssec. It was a good gallop. Troilus beat Mime over five furlongs on the plough in lmin 6sec. Garvary and Zeuxis sprinted half a milo on the plough in 51sec, the former finishing in front. Miss Nightraid and Discordia were together at the end of a half-mile sprint up the back, on the grass, run in 49 3-ssec. Chickwheat and Buoyant ran a mile cn £he grass in lmin 43sec. Chickwheat was in front most of the way, but Buoyant was on terms with him

at the finish. Chickwheat looks particularly well. Moratorium and Weather Raid sprinted half a mile up the back, on the grass, in 49 3-ssec. Freud Knight covered six iurlongs on the grass in lmin 16 4-ssec. The first race at Ashburton on Saturday is due to start at 1 o’clock. The Thurnham-Heather Dew mare which is engaged in the Lagmhor Plate at Ashburton, has been named Princess Thurnham. Caterpillar is at present under offer to a Riccarton trainer, and it is probable that she will change hands. Chide left Lyttelton last night by the ferry steamer, and will be shipped from Wellington to Sydney to-day.
