ODDFELLOWSHIP.

LOYAL TIMARU LODGE. | The fortnightly meeting of the Timaru Boys’ Juvenile Lodge of Oddfellows was held last Wednesday night, when Bro. Norman Burdon presided over 37 members. A welcome was extended to Bro. J. A. Davie, Noble Grand of the adult lodge, who wnn his officers paid an official visit. One new member was elected and duly initiated, Bro. Richard Vincent giving the charge, and Bro. Ralph Best, P.P., acting as conductor. The visitors’ toast was honoured. The sick report showed there was no one on the benefit funds at present. The secretary gave the next lecturette on the emblems, the subject being “Hope,” as symbolised by an anchor. The subject was analysed and its relation to the principles of Oddfellowship explained, especially its restaining influence on evil and its forward tendency for good. Several visitors spoke in complimentary terms of the work being done by the juvenile lodges among the youths of the town. Mention was also made of the members who received promotion to the adult Lodge, and who entered it with a good basic knowledge of Oddfellowship. j A promotion bonus of eight shillings was passed for payment. Receipts for the evening amounted to £1 17s 6d. In the afternoon, the adult Lodge held a special emergency meeting for the purpose of initiating a candidate. Immediately after the boys’ meeting, another special meeting of the adult Lodge was held at which Bro. J. A. Davie, N.G., presided over 21 members. Three more candidates were elected to membership, and duly initiated, Bros. Norman Foord and Peter Hanlin acting as conductors. Further progress was reported in regard to the opening of Loyal Geraldine Lodge next week. The secretary in reporting on the membership roll and the financial position of Loyal Timaru, forecasted an unprecedented favourable position.
