THE WEATHER. Mr M. G. Williams, Geraldine, reports that during February, 32 points of rain were registered, the maximum being 13 points on February 3. ltain fell on five days, as compared with twelve days in February, 1928. The temperature during the month lias been high, ranging from 80 to 87 degrees, tho last mentioned figure being recorded on February 21. GOLF. At a recent meeting of tho Geraldine Golf Club, it was decided to make alterations to tho pavilion, and to obtain estimates for matting some of the trees. The annual meeting was fixed for March 25, and it was decided to open tho season on or about the first Saturday in April. CROQUET. The following are the results of a croquet match played last Thursday on the Geraldine green, between the Geraldine Club ana West End (Timaru), Geraldine names being mentioned first:— Doubles. Mrs Hayes and Mr Kirk beat Mrs Gabites and Mrs Sampson, 26—14. Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Rule beat Mrs Bryce and Mrs Wotherspoon, 26—16. Miss Rule and Mr Neutze lost to Mrs Winnington and Mrs Tank, 11—26. Singles. Mrs McKenzie beat Mrs Gabites, 26—15. Mrs Hayes beat Mrs Sampson, 26 20. Mrs Rule beat Mrs Bryce. 26—5. Mr Kirk lost to Mrs Winnington, 22—26. Miss Rule beat Mrs Wotherspoon, 26—9. Mr Neutze beat Mrs Tank, 26—19. BOY SCOUTS. The Boy Scout movement is gaining in popularity in Geraldine, and to encourage the movement, the trooj> has been the recipient of a shield from tho Hon. J. A. Murdoch, C.M.G., Sydney, New South Wales. The shield, which is of oak, silver-mounted, with the motto of the Scouts inscribed, will be contested for by the different troops of the Geraldine Scouts, and the names of the winners will be inscribed on silver medallions attached to the shield. ! , The shield was made by Messrs W. Kerr and Co., Sydney, and is in every wav an artistic production. VITAL STATISTICS. The vital statistics for Geraldine for the month of February are as follows, the figures for the corresponding month, of 1928 being in parentheses :—Births 8 (3); deaths nil (2); marriages 1 BOWLING. ‘ • On Thursday, Mr C. Stock and Mr W. Hamilton, of the Geraldine Bowling Club, played off the final of the champion singles of the Club, when Mr Hamilton won by one point on the last- head. This means that Mr Hamilton will represent the Geraldine Club in the champion of champions singles, which is to be played to-day at Timaru. Mr W. Broad (president of the Ger- 1 aldine Bowling Club) has received from Mr R. Shillito, Timaru delegate from , the Geraldine Club, to the South Can- . terbury Centre, a telegram in which he complimented the Geraldine Club in 1 taking second place in the champion , of champion rinks contest, which was . held recently in Timaru, and he added that he was proud to be the represent- ‘ ative of the Geraldine Club on the, ' Centre. x \ PERSONAL. < 1 Miss Wooley, Geraldine, lias gone to 1 the training camp of the Girl Guides, which is being held at Mount Torlesse. She will be away for a fortnight.
