PIPING AND DANCING.
OFFICERS UNSEATED. The Otago Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association of New Zealand held a special meeting on Monday. Mr J. W. Voting (president) occupying the | chair. A very large number of members were present. The special business of the meeting was to discuss the following motion, of | which notice had been given:—“That I in accordance with the association rule j 45 (a) tha.*' the whole of the officers i and all other members of the centre : executive as elected at the annual meeting of the centre be removed from ! office forthwith as a body, and that jo'her officers and all other members of ! the executive be elected forthwith in ; their places to carry on the business of the executive until the next general meeting of ‘the centre.” As the roll was called th e financial position of a number of members was questioned, and in ?ome cases their standing as to a right to vote. One member had joined just before the close of the centre’s financial year, and when askd for his fee said that he was up to date, and would not pay bis 10s again. The chairman said that it was hardly reasonable to except the member to par under the circumstances, and took him as being a fully-phid member. At the commencement of the meeting ! the chairman said that be was exceedj ingly sorry that such a meeting had to be called. j It was proposed by Mr F. Chevne I that the meeting go into committee. ] It- would be done to te-s't the feeling j of the meeting, and it was thought- that j matters to come before them should he | dealt with in committee. The motion was seconded bv Mr Cameron, who thought that quite a number of things would bo said which, for the sake of the Association, should not be reported. The chairman explained that at the last meeting of the executive it had been decided that the press be invited to attend the meeting. A member said that it would be better if the public knew “the ins and outs” of the meeting. The motion was put, the result being twenty-five eacii side. The chairman gave Ins casting vote against the 'motion, and declared it lost. !
