OLD AGE PENSIONS.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald. Sir, —Being a constant reader of your paper I would like a small space to reply to “ E.T.K.” He is asking if something can be done in the way of old age pensions for those who came to New Zealand twenty years ago. My parents came to New Zealand from England in the year 18 59, with three children. I was one month old. After a few years both my parents died, and we struggled through hardship , and difficulty os only the pioneer knows. Four years ago I applied for the old age pension. “It is not for you,” I was , told. I have lived in New Zealand 79 years (aii my life), and should very much like to know who the pension is for and how it is obtained? The Government will spend thousands of pounds on a memorial for the dead, who know and feel nothing, while the aged, live and suffer. —1 am, etc. OLD AGE
