The Waikato County Council resolved to support the Palmerston Borough’s proposal that the whole system of hospital control should be revised, but rejected a proposal that focal bodes should appoint members to Hospital Boards. DUNEDIN, July 11. _ The method by which revenue is obtained for the maintenance of Hospital Boards was severely criticised at a meeting of the City Council to-night by Councillor Clark (chairman of the Finance Committee), who stated that his committee was of opinion that the system should he the subject of .inquiry by a Government Commission, and that endeavours should he made to lessen the hardships imposed on local bodies. The discussion arose out of a, eommuniention from the Palmerston North Borough Council, suggesting that the Government! should be approached by local bodies with a request to revise the system. The Committee recommended that the Council should co-operate. Mr Clark described the system as a drain on local bodies. The system was iniquitous, and •no attempt had been made to investigate a proper method on a scientific basis. The Government should, he asked to find a. more suitable way of raising money, and it should also alter itis method of appointing Boards. The present system was a burden which people could ill nffnrd to carry.
Tho Council adopted the Committee’s recommendation.
