SHIPPING HOLD-UP.

The Australian Trade Union Conference, fearing a general shipping holdup, owing to the cooks’ dispute, which will likely be to prejudice Labour at the general elections, has referred tho dispute to the Emergency Committee for action. ATTITUDE OF COOKS. SUSPENSION OF AWARD, (United Press Association —By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, April 28. Mr Tudehope, for the Marine Cooks’ Union, asked Judge Dethridge whether lie thought the ‘suspension of the award would lead to a settlement of the dispute, or whether there was no better way out, Mr Justice Dethridge: There’s only one other way—that is for your men to man the ships. You can then come forward for the redress of your grievances in the orderly way. Mr Tudehope: Then I suggest that the award should be cancelled only as regards the Huddart, Parker Coy., as the other companies are -unaffected. Mr Justice Dethridge: You cannot indulge in direct action against on* respondent and at the same time continue to hold the benefits of the award. Mr Menzies, for Huddart,' Parkers: We could commission several ships by Monday, if the Union is ready to resume. Mr Justice Dethridge then announced the decision of the Court.
