MINIATURE RIFLES.

TIMARU CLUB. The twelfth annual meeting of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Cluh was held in the club rooms oil Tuesday evening, the president, Mr W. E. Jones, presiding over a good alfcendanco of about 20 members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated that the club had experienced a very successful season. The usual competitions including the “-Herald” Shield, liayliurst Shield, South Island Championship and New Zealand Championship had been held. The club were fully represented ill all these competitions. Alter a splendid shoot 1 he H team were successful in carrying oil the liayliurst shield, while in tho New Zealand Championship tho No. 1 team put up a splendid performance, tiding for third place only three points behind the winners. W. Bradshaw deserved the hearty congratulations of the club for winning the aggregate championship for New Zealand. Tho presentation of prizes took place at the annual social, and everything connected with tee function passed oil in a very sueccsslui manner. The credit for thi.s was due to li;o members of the social committee who spared no effort to make the function a success. Special thanks were due to the donors or trophies, who were as follows: Messrs J. Ncwlands, E. Lewis, J. Stallard, A. Thoreau, A England, S. H, Barker, J. Rigoft, B. McDomikl, C. Johnson, P. Sherry, A. Eraser, V/. Duncan, \V. Reunig, AAV Jones and Dr Burns. Tho challenge medal was won by \Y. Bradshaw after an interesting contest; tho club aggregate was secured by \Y. Rennie, who was thoroughly deserving of the honour, while the runner up was AY. Bradshaw. The Dr. Burns Challenge Cup and the Eraser Modal were carried oil by \Y. Thomas, a young marksman, who fully deserved his win. The finances of the club were in a very satisfactory stale. The officials extended their appreciation to all members for the keen sportsmanship mid good fellowship displayed during the season. AVith a good membership and a first class range it was irusted that the coming season would bo a pleasure to all. 'Die special thanks of the club were due to Air AV. Rennie, for the gift of a table heater and other articles to the club. The chairman, in moving tho adoption of the report referred to tinvery sound position tho club was in, said that from a financial point of view, tho position was excel’cnt. A good deal on the expenditure side would be non-recurring, and when taking that into consideration, the dub could congratulate itself on the credit balance returned. GENERAL. The chairman reierreb in eulogistic manner to the work of Mr \Y. Murray for liis work as auditor, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded him. The appreciation of tlic club was also extended in a similar manner to the secretary, Mr \Y. Malcolm. It was decided to place on record the services of Mr Lewis to the club during hia eight years in the capacity of captain. It was decided on the motion of Mr Stevenson, to go into the question of appointing range officers at the different shoots during the season. Subscriptions were fixed the same as last year, under 18, 2s 6d, over 18, os. The question of the price of ammunition was discussed, and it was decided on the motion of Mr Duncan, to charge iie same as last voar. ” - “

: Mr Lewis suggested that now the ■ Club was in a good financial position, : members might receive benefit through I the lifting of’ the small charge for the j entrance fees to the medal 'and other trophy competitions. The chairman thought the suggestion a good one. Mr Malcolm was of opinion that tho fees for the medal and trophy matches should still be levied. The imposition was by no means a heavy one on individual members but collectively would bo of benefit to the finances of the club. Mr Thomas said flint in view of the improvements required on the range, the money would be necessary. In the end the members would benefit by the increased comfort bn the range. Mr Lewis considered that the improvements would not necessitate much expense, especially if done by working bee. The. matter was allowed to drop. A suggestion was put forward that no charge should bo levied on members for ammunition in competition club shoots-. A motion to that effect was carried unanimously. Tt was resolved to hold the opening shoot on Monday .light 'next.
