Fitzgera’d, commanding I the Second Battalion of the East .Surreys at Gibraltar, paid the usual afterI noon visit to the orderly room accompanied by an adjutant. The later on departing, noticed Lieut. Dufficid ana asked him why he was there. Duffield said he wished to see the Colonel. The Adjutant obtained permission, and Duffield entered. Presently shots were heard, and the Colonel was found shot in the head. He said: “He shot me; arrest him.” The Colonel died. Duffield, who admitted his guilt, was arrested ail’d placed in a mental ward. It is understood that he is suffering from delusions. The officers say he had no ill fooling towards the Co'onel, who recently complimented him on In's good work. The British Co'ony has cancelled all entertainments.
