The metropolitan division of the National Union of Conservative Associations adopted a resolution, welcoming the Trade Union Bill, particularly the political levy provisions, and undertook to support the passage of the measure. The Parliamentary Liberal Party passed a resolution condemning the general strike of 19 26, as an abuse of trade unionism, and expressing the opinion that tho admitted uncertainties of trade union law, before amendment, would need elucidation by an impartial inquiry, and regretting the introduction of the Bill, which would hamper the efforts to promote ’industrial peace, and divert Parliament’s attention from public economy and social reform.
