HYDRO POWER.
REPOIIT ON TEKAPO. At the Timaru railway station yesterday, the Minister of Public Works (lion. X. S. Wnliams) received a uepuiatioii from the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs R. B. Bell (president), P. B. Foote (vice-president), and W. C. Irwin. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P. was ajso present. The deputation reminded the Minister of ins promise to visit South Canterbury in connection with a second source of hydro-electrical power supply lor Canterbury and North Otago, and asked Jnm to name a date. The Minister replied that the report on the probable sources had been completed only on Saturday, and had been delivered that day to Mr F. T. MKissel (chief electrical engineer to the Public Works Department). It had taken a long time to prepare the report, which lie had not yet been able to see. He recognised, however, that the whole question involved was one of moment to South Canterbury and to the contiguous districts both north and south, ami he would take steps to announce tlie conclusion reached in the report at the earliest possible date. The Minister added that be hoped to be ablei to arrange to visit Timaru and tlie prospective various sources of power on lus return from the south in about a week or ten days’ time.
