_ His Royal Highness the Duke of York, befcfre leaving Timaru yesterday, expressed a desire that the schools of South Cantei'bury should be given a special hoL-nv in honour of his visit. Tiie committees of the. Timaru primary schools have decided that the schools under their jurisdiction shall observe the holiday to-day (Thursday). Tho Timaru High Schools, both Bo.vs’ and Girls’,, however, will assemble as usual, and the “Duke’s holiday” will be added to the Easter or term holidays. This course is found more convenient in connection with the boarding establishments attached to the High Schools. Craighead Gilds’ School also will observe the holiday at a later date. The Parecra Polo Club has - decided to send a team next week to take part in the Savill Cup tournariicni. The players will be —Messrs A. S. Elworthv, H. Klworthy, It. Gould, and C. L. Orbeli.

On account of representations made, the Prime Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates) will probably visit Timaru at an early date, and receive a large deputation of farmers, on the wheat question. Mr Coates is expected to visit Timaru before going to Christchurch to receive a deputation of North Canterbury farmers on the same question. Under these circumstances, it is not now considered necessary to promote the petition which it had been intended to present to the Prime Minister concerning the necessity for stabilising tho wheat market at a price which will save farmers from graving wheat at a loss.
