MOTORING ROUND THE WORLD.
SUCCESS SURPRISES EXPERTS. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association. LONDON, March 15. Advices from Constantinople show that Ell : s and Birtles, were the first to get a car through from London during winter time. Officials are surprised at their success. It has been regarded as virtually impossible to negotiate the deep mud of Thrace and tho snowdrifts in the notorious Dragoman Pass, especially as the men were travelling in one the worst weeks ever experienced this winter They had to risk a car on a Dozen rwer several times without knowledge of the depth they would have to fall if the ice broke, Tb o actual running time to , Constantinople was I.G-J- days, which is believed to be a record f'or anv time of the year.
It is considered that there is a good chance of clipping off a few days from the best London .to Quetta time, which at present is 80 days. Negotiation of the snow on the mountains, and roadless swamps are only part of the adventure. There are rigid Customs regulations on scores of borders, which entail long inquisitions by officialdom, and language difficulties have to be overcome Many of those are responsible for delays, but the motorists receive the utmost courtesy in those centres where there are British Consular representatives.
