Davies (French Defence). —An even game. Bullock sacrificed a pawn to save putting a knight temporarily out of action. A difficult ending followed, in which Davies won. . ' .

Fouhy v. Severne (Queen’s gambit declined). —The game proceeded on orthodox lines. Both players became pressed for time, and Fouhy lost two pawns and obtained a hopeless game. Severne won. Fairburn v. Fenwick (Queen’s pawn game).—Fenwick inadvertently touched a wrong piece, and had to lose it, but varying vicissitudes of fortune brought about a fairly even game. Fairburn won after a long struggle. Fenwick could have drawn.

Kelling v. Moir (Alechine defence) —Kelling did not make the most of his position, and a long game resulted with bishops of opposite colour in the end position, which ended in a draw. Pleasants v. Erskine (Sicilian defence). —A solid even game throughout ended in a draw' on the G4th move.
