Fredric motored from Dunedin to Temuka on Christmas Day, and aro staying with Air A. H. Fenh, Temuka.. Air and Airs Henry Reid, and Aliss Joyce Nancarrow, Dunedin, aro staying with Airs Ernest Howden, Park Lane.

Airs John Young, Dunedin, arrived in Timaru oil Alondny to say farewell to Air and Airs George Bowker, who left yesterday for England. Air and Airs A. J. Smith, Rangiora, and Aliss Trott, Sealey Street, Timaru, left last week, on a motor tour to Dunedin and the Southern Lakes. Mr and Airs G. Alartin, Wilson Street, Street, and Air and Airs Newton, Alaltby Avenue, are staying at Lake Teknpo. . Air and Airs C. S. Young,. Craighead Street, have gone out to the river for tho holidays. Mr and Mrs George Rhodes, who spent. Christmas with Mrs Ben Howell, Cave, have returned to Christchurch. Miss Alison Johnston, Wai-iti Road, who spent Christmas with Mrs Geoffrey Rich, Cavo, returned to town yesterday. Mrs Arthur Elworthv and Mr John Elworthy, Holme Station, are spending the Christmas holidays in Switzerland.

Mr and Mrs Matthew Wills, and Mr Trevor Barker, “Opawa,” Albury, are spending the holidays in the Mackenzie Country. Misses Ta'bley, Fitzsimmons and Murphy, who were staying at “Kelso,” Sarah Street,;, returned yesterday to Christchurch. Mrs J. Walsh, Miss Dorrie "Walsh (Christchurch), and Mrs S. Nolan (Melbourne) aro expected in Timaru to-day. Mrs and Miss Armstrong, Chalmers Street, and their guest, Miss M. Denton, leave to-day for Christchurch. Mr .aiid Mrs W. C. Raymond and family, Nile Street, who have let their house tp Mr and Mrs Bowden, of Ashburton, have gone on a motor trip to Kaikoura.

Mrs Gahites, Wai-iti Road, left on Monday accompanied by the Misses Campbell (3), who aro leaving for Sydney. to meet their parents on their way from England. " Mrs Leslie O'Callaghan, and Miss Marie O’Cailaghan, Beverley. Road, left yesterday to spend a month in Gisborne. Mr and Mrs Dan Reese, Christchurch, will occupy their house during their absence. Mr and Mrs W. B: Graham and daughter, Miss Vera Graham, Dunedin; also Mr Boyd Doaker, Gone, are staying at “Balgownie,” Craighead Street, for the holidays.

The engagement is announced of Brenda Garrick, only daughter of Mr, and Mrs J. P. Newman, “Moana,” Timarn, to Mervyn Archdall, elder son of Mr and Mrs Frank Raymond, Beverley Road, Timaru.

Aliss Alina Ward is expected to-day from Christchurch, and will ho the guest of Airs Bryne, Wai-iti Road, till Friday, when she will be staying at the Dominion Hotel for the New Year tennis tournament.

Air and Airs F. Clissold, Grey Road, and their guests, Air and Airs Owen Clissold, Napier, leave to-day for Christchurch to ho present at tho wedding of Air Times Clissold to Aliss Sylvia Clare, which will take place tomorrow.

Last Friday week an enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Air and AD’s A. Shirtcliffc, Scddon Street, when the Highfield Ladies’ Literary Club read two humorous plays to an appreciative audience of friends. After tho reading, supper was dispensed b.v the ladies, and a short musical programme, with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, brought ail enjoyable evening to a close. Those who took part in the reading were :—Alesdames Grubb, Buchanan, Shirtcliffc, and Alitcholl, Misses AI. Sutherland, S. AleLcaii, I. Collins, Iv. Sutherland, AI. Turner, P. Bowie, IC.
