The Red'victories are obviously due to Russian leadership, because they arc greatly outnumbered, another factor being the assistance rendered by tho natives in guiding them through secret passes, permitting flank, rear and other demoralising attacks by the Reds, who an> popular with the natives everywhere ow.ng to the rigid discipline and absence of looting and other characteristics lacking in the anti-Rcd rabble. Reports state that General Bun-Chuan-Eang’s army has been almost entirely routed by the Rods, and General Sun-Chnan-Kang is prepared to accept any terms. The Szechwan situation is daily becoming more critical. The evacuation of foreigners from Cbcngi.il has commenced, women and children leaving. A warning lia.c been issued by the Chunking authorities to foreigners not to proceed iip river beyond Ichnng, owing to a fresh outburst of aniiforeignism.
