BOXING MARQUIS.
VISIT TO TIM ABU. Known as the “boxing Marquis,” the Marquis'; of-' Douglas * and- Clydesdale, eldest son of the "Duke 1 of Hamilton, arrived in Timaru on Wednesday, proceding the next morning to the Hermitage. The Marquis who lias been a prominent figure in Scottish boxing circles since 1923, was educated . at Eton, -where he twice competed in the finals of the middleweight section. He also represented) Oxford in the lightheavy section of the inter-University tournament. In the Scottish championship the Marquis was beaten in the finals, but he made such a brilliant showing that both, professional boxers and critics were much impressed by his style. In one bout against Henderson, a collier, the Marquis knocked out his opponent in the third round. It is reported that a match was to have been arranged with the 1924 All Black, Brian McCleaxy, but the bout did not eventuate. . The Marquis is accompanied by Mr E. Eagen, an American Rhodes Scholar arid winner of the heavy-weight boxing championship at the last Olympic Games, and Messrs B. and T. Pine.
