Humour and originality was much displayed in a letter recently written to tlie dork of the Southland County Council, by a ratepayer in the eastern district of Southland. The letter states : “Your nolo re rates duly came to hand. Thanks. I had fully made up my mind to allow you to_ collect this rate through the Courcs, if it is a valid rate, hut the action of vour council in voting £IOOO of the Southland ratepayer-;’ money towards liquidating the South Cburt')s debts (Dunedin Exhibition) lins converted me, convinced me, indeed, that Bolshevism of the pure Russian typo lias taken a deep root in this country, and with compulcory ‘Meat Control Boards,' ditto ‘Dairy Control Boards.’ compulsory ‘Power Boards,’ and compulsory ‘Peep Show and Gambling Alloys,’’ Power Boards are merely window dressing, and for mo to attempt to chock the advance of this hydro-headed monster would ho sheer madness. You win. I fling my cards or the table. Please find your pound of flesh enclosed, with kind regards?’
