CALCUTTA SWEEP DEALS.
Big Reward For Winner. THE PRINCIPLE ADOPTED. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cablo A»r.c*ciai;.m • LONDON, Juno 2. The Calcutta sweep , winner, Bishop, acted on the principle that a few thousands in hand were better than a problematical £120,000. Firstly he sold half his share for £7000; then he parcelled out another three-eighths, retaining only one eighth, which is worth £15,000. It is estimated that he will clear £25,000.
It is interesting to note that the purchaser of the half share received £60,000. . * Eishop sat in his office and worked throughout the race. When a friend ’phoned, he said quietly, “Thanks,, very much.” Discussing the sale, Bishop said; “If I had a little more courage I should have won a great deal more.” He announced his intention to, continue the work, although his employers stated that he had been granted indefinite leave, and this rather spoiled his chance of a yearly rise.
