WATERSIDERS RESUME AT LYTTELTON.
By TeleEraph —Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, April 29. As was expected after the conference on Wednesday, work was resumed afc Lyttelton this morning. At 8.15 the men met and the position was briefly explained by their leaders Wlic-n the meeting finished, the men, about GOO in all, assembled outside for engagement. There was a slight liitcl in securing all the labour necessary foi tlio “preference” steamer Ooo.'nna, for which labour was called for first. OnH a few men stood out, and most of them were non-Unionists who had come through from the city on the chance of a job. Eight gangs were required, but only three were secured. A short conference between the shipping and Union officials was held, and the secretary of the Union (Mr J. Flood) called the men together and told them that labour must bo secured for the Coolana, and that those watorsiders who usually accepted coal work with the stevedores, Kinsey and Coy., wou'd be expected to stand out and accept the call. This had the desired effect, and' the men who had been holding back for general cargo work then stood outand were engaged. All the members of tho Union found employment, and with the help of some 50 to 100 nonUnionists, full gangs were secured for nil ships.
