Afr F. Chittock left Timaru for Dunedin yesterday. Mr A. Cambridge, Dunedin, is visiting Timaru. Afr J. E. Hcnrys, Wellington, arrived, in Timaru yesterday. Air E. A. Shrimpton has just returned from a deer-stalking expedition, to Huxley Gorge. Afr AY. H. AValton left by the second express for Christchurch yesterday. Sir AViHiam Sim was a passenger by yesterday s first express for Dunedin. The Rev. T. AAV Potts went to Dune-, din yesterday to attend a meeting of the AA'aipiata Sanatorium Committee. Air G. Greig, Railway Business Agent for Canterbury and (Dtago, came to Timaru from Dunedin yesterday. The Hon. F. J. Itollcston (Aliliister of Justice and Defence) left Timaru yesterday on his return to’AVellington. Air H. A. Knight (chairman of dircctoi-s of tho Canterbury Frozen Aleat Company) was a passenger by yesterday’s express for the north. Mr C. S. Neville, who was formerly Stock Inspector hero, is at present on a visit to Timaru. He is now stationed on the AA’est Coast. Advice is received that Very- Rev. Dean Burke, of Invercargill, has been appointed private chamberlain to His Holiness the Pope, with the title of Monsignor. Air Arthur H. Dickenson, M.R.5.1., chief inspector of health at Broken Hill, New South AVales, has been appointed chief inspector and engineer of the Litligow sewerage scheme in the Blue Alountain district. Mr A. Dickenson was previously chief sanitary inspector to the Timaru Borough Council, - and afterwards was attached to tlie inspectors’ staff of the Auckland City Council.
Mr E. E. Ward, with has just been appointed Director of Agriculture in Tasmania, is on the staff of the Department of- Agriculture at Christchurch,, and at the present time is an instructor in agriculture in the Canterbury district, lie is 35 years of age, age joined the department in 1920 as instructor of agriculture at Wellington. He soon distinguished himself as a capable officer, and in the following year lie was transferred to Christchurch, where he has been ever .since. An official of tho Department of Agriculture says that Mr Ward was held in very high regard, his work having been exceedingly satisfactory, and, although gratified that, he had received such an appointment, the department would be very sorry to lose his services. Mr E. A Hamilton, who for the past sixteen years has been manager in Timaru for Sim’s Cooper, has been : transferred, on promotion, to Palmerston North. Mr Hamilton* place in Timaru will be filled bv Mr C. S. Smith, of Christchurch. At the conclusion of the annual meeting or the South Canterbury Chamber or Commerce last- night, Mr Hamilton was faro welled, "when very complimentary reference was made to liis work as a member of the Chamber; and he was handed a small, but very useful parting <rift Mr Hamilton lias been a member of the South Canterbury Acclamatisation Society, of the Caroline Bav Association, and of the \vaimataitai School Committee, and it was said that lie had proved a good allround citizen, whose departure would lie a considerable loss to Timani. Mr Hamilton made fitting acknowledgment- of the gift, and of the kindly sentiments by which it was accompanied. Ho will leave Timaru on y;-,lnv next. , Mr J. 0.
