The dividend distribution of the Rand Gold Mines falls short of last year by £1,500,000, due to the loss of the gold premium, and the shortage of native labour. The President of the Chamber of Mines, addressing that body, strongly protested against _ the Government’s action in restricting the importation of native labour from outside the Union, in accordance with the Government’s white labour policy. This, he declared, would eventually lead to the closing of a large number of low grade mines.
